Application Case:
Global Cloud Provider Leverages Modular DC Assets to Deliver Speedy, Scalable Solutions

Estimated at just over $380 billion in 2021, the global cloud computing market is expected to grow significantly in the near future. According to Precedence Research, the market size is projected to hit around $1.61 trillion by 2030, with a CAGR of 17.43% from 2022 to 2030. Such robust expansion is not unexpected given that more and more enterprises are moving to the cloud, with an increasing number adopting cloud-only or cloud-first policies when it comes to procuring IT services (including infrastructure as a service).

Cloud-based solutions are compelling for a variety of reasons. They do away with the need for sizeable IT teams to handle cloud data center operations, there’s no capital or maintenance expenditure, and cloud services providers are better able to deliver very high levels of uptime and security than most in-house setups. Cloud solutions are also highly scalable and can be deployed speedily. This makes them ideal for enterprises seeking a high level of enterprise agility, as well as those with growing or fluctuating demands for compute firepower, storage, etc.

Availability as business advantage
For cloud solutions providers, the ability to provide ready-to-use and highly scalable solutions to enterprise clients is vital. Being able to deliver such qualities can be a challenge, however, given the ever-changing needs of clients and the marketplace, as well as clients’ expanding global footprint. Combining a modular approach to building out DC infrastructure with a high level of compatibility between different asset types enables cloud providers to be able to quickly deploy the cloud services demanded by their enterprise clients.

A worldwide global provider of dedicated cloud computing solutions is using this recipe in its 14 globally distributed DCs that provide quick-to-deploy and scalable cloud solutions to enterprise clients, including those in government, defense, and financial services that have very exacting performance, security and uptime requirements.

Upgrading for future-proofing
To enhance the modularity and flexibility inherent in its solutions so that its enterprise clients benefit from the latest DC technologies, the cloud solutions provider has been upgrading its infrastructure in its Sydney facility. So far, 200 racks spread over several cages have been put in place. They incorporate modular solutions from companies in the Legrand stable: cables and LCS³ Fiber Raceway from Legrand, environmental SmartSensors from Raritan, Nexpand Server cabinets from Minkels and rack PDUs from Server Technology.

Solutions from the entire Legrand stable are designed for modularity and this ensures a very high level of scalability and future-proofing. Moreover, as there are very high levels of compatibility (up to plug-and-play level) between solutions from the companies in the group, integration of the various asset types within the DC cages was a breeze.

More DCs to be upgraded
With its Sydney DC infrastructure upgraded, the cloud solutions provider is now able to configure solutions that incorporate the latest DC technologies for its enterprise clients and deliver them more quickly than before. Clients also have the assurance that these solutions can be easily scaled to meet future needs thanks to the built-in modularity and compatibility and a ready inventory of assets.

Having proved that DC complexity can be overcome through the use of modular and highly compatible solutions, the company plans to roll out the upgrading program to five other cities in Singapore, Germany, the US, and the UK in the near future.
